Detailed Description on Using Our New All-in-One Map

  1. I think it is wonderful that you have geo-referenced these many different spatial layers.
Just one note – the village labeled as Tiegenau at the center of the Molotschna Colony is actually the village of Margenau.
Margenau no longer exists – most of the village was destroyed by a fire about 1921 and the remaining structures were later left to decay.
Margenau was located east of Fuerstenwerder and west of Gnadenthal.
Wishing you all the best with these efforts,
    David

    1. Thanks for your comment and for the helpful feedback! Yes, indeed, the label is absolutely wrong. I hope to issue a revised map later this week or next with the village labels updated and corrected. The datasource I used has quite a few errors which have largely been fixed in Andreas Tissen’s “Mennoniten in Russland,” which I will be using on the upcoming release. Thanks again!

    2. Hi David, I issued a new map today with the changes you mentioned. Unfortunately, the quality of the map isn’t great so I’ll be redoing it shortly. Have a look. I got the new location of Margenau from an slightly later version of the same map. I can show it to you if you like. Thanks for participating!
